OEF/OIF Welcome Home event

The Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Welcome Home event is this Tuesday October 27th from 4:30PM to 7:30PM at the Phoenix Zoo the address is 455 N. Galvin Parkway Phoenix 85008 (click for map)

For those taking the bus they can take catch Route 1 or Route 3 from the Central Station at Van Burren and Central and it will be a half hour ride straight to the zoo.

This event is open to all Veterans and the purpose will be to thank our veterans and provide them with medical service information, GI Bill, and home loan information, and connect them with with workforce opportunities.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided!

Project Homeless Connect Event

The next Project Homeless Connect will happen this Thursday, October 29 at
Chandler Christian Church from 7AM to 3:30PM

The address is 1825 S Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85286 (click for map)
The Chandler Christian Church is east of Alma School, south of the 202 and north of Germann Rd

Project Homeless Connect events offer instant access to the resources you need to start the journey back to health, financial stability and housing. This includes access to goods - like food and clothing - and services such as counseling and job placement.

2nd Annual Homelessness Awareness Walk

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Join our walk in memory of Howard Marquardt who passed away July 25th on a park bench outside the Herberger Theater Center and in support of all those who experience homelessness every day. We will walk to build awareness of this pressing issue.

Come to educate the public and policy makers regarding the current status of homelessness in Maricopa.

Local service providers will have information booths at the capitol. Attendees will be able to learn about available services and social services agencies needs for in-kind items and volunteers.

The first 400 walkers will receive a free t-shirt!

United States Census is Hiring

The United States Census is hiring 3,000 temporary workers to process 2010 U.S. Census forms in Phoenix.

Positions include data entry personnel, team leaders, document preparation clerks, sorter and scanner operations, check-in clerks and mail receipt/mail handlers.

Both full- and part-time workers are needed, and pay starts at $11.49 per hour plus an additional $3.35 per hour cash stipend in lieu of benefits. The jobs are all temporary and do not include benefits. The base wage goes up to as much as $17.36 per hour plus the $3.35 stipend.

Hiring for leadership positions is taking place through November.
Most of the other 3,000 hires will be made November through January, and the majority of jobs will end with the conclusion of the U.S. Census in July 2010.

To be eligible for employment, potential candidates must pass a criminal background check that includes fingerprinting, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be legally able to work in the United States and sign a sworn statement to protect Census data and pass a typing assessment test for some positions.
